Patricia Varón, June 2026
Needham Reservoir, 24”x36”,watercolor
Watercolor artist Patricia Varón was born and raised in Lima, Perú. This fact has influenced her work immensely, from her use of materials to the subject matter.
As a child in Perú, she took art lessons from her parents' accomplished artist friends. Later at college she majored in art and continued her watercolor exploration in graduate school. Her style is free and loose.
When painting in watercolor, Patricia uses handmade, mostly hot-pressed wove paper, lots of water, and saturated colors which provide fresh and dynamic results. This process has influenced her oil painting as well. Her subject matters vary. Patricia works mostly ‘en plein air’ when creating her landscapes.
Her favorite works are still lives depicting pre-Columbian pottery and textiles. The earth tones of the pottery and woven pieces and their designs are immensely inspirational to her. Her intention with her paintings is to impart her enthusiasm and passionate response to what she experiences.
Patricia has worked internationally in South and Central America and Europe. She recently returned from four months painting in Civita Castelana, Lazio, and Cefalù, Sicily, Italy. She works from her studio in Wickford, Rhode Island when she is in the United States.
