Alex Cullen, September 2026
Alex Cullen has a degree in Fine Art from the University of New Hampshire. In his earlier years - before marriage, kids and career, he lived in New York and took advantage of the art scene there to create pastels and watercolors. Upon retirement, he returned to his art. He primarily paints in acrylic for more developed and complex works, tending towards realistic outdoor scenes (although sometimes with imagined elements), or family portraits. He has a three-year old granddaughter that is a frequent subject!
“My current interest is on watercolor and pen sketches that can be completed in less than an hour, painted ‘en plein air’.
I can fit my painting kit, including a folding stool, into a small backpack. This allows me to take my paints andwork wherever I go, such as when traveling. I hope to have a show soon of my travel sketches.”
Alex’s paintings can be viewed on Instagram at afcullen0917.
Editor’s note: Alex has volunteered for us leading plein air trips, editing our Artists’ Book and is a member of our Painting Group
