Treasured Path Linocut on Paper by Sherrie York
A self-taught printmaker and compulsive wanderer of landscapes, Sherrie York finds her inspiration in the natural world. A long-ago college field trip to draw backyard chickens was the unexpected genesis of a career that encompasses environmental education, natural history illustration, birding, and printmaking. Through the medium of linocut, Sherrie finds her way to place, inspired by personal experiences and discoveries as she explores the natural world from mountains to the sea.
Sherrie’s linocuts have been presented at national and international venues, including in the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum prestigious exhibit Birds in Art and the annual Society of Animal Artists Art and the Animal member exhibit. She is also represented in corporate and museum collections. In 2019, a major exhibition of her work was hosted at the Museum of American Bird Art (Canton, MA). She has been an invited artist on projects of the international Artists for Nature Foundation and has served in several Artist-in-Residence posts including at Acadia National Park. She is a popular instructor in field sketching and printmaking, especially as a member of the instructional staff at the National Audubon Society’s Hog Island Camp (Bremen, ME) and the Farnsworth Art Museum(Rockland, ME).
Sherrie has also served on several art organization boards including the Midcoast Audubon Society. In addition to her landscape and wildlife art pursuits, she works as a designer and illustrator for a wide variety of projects and clients, most of which reflect her interest in natural and cultural history education.
